Some frequently answered questions to help you with the images on this web site
These photographs were taken by students at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. The students are magazine, news and digital journalism (MND) and photography majors enrolled in the VIS 400/600 Photography for the Media. Students are in Lake Placid Feb. 3-6, photographing the Games and uploading their work to this website.
Yes, Media outlets from throughout the Northeast can access the site and download the images for use in local coverage as long as each image includes proper attribution for the photographer. Failure to properly attribute the photographer for their work is a break of the license to use the images. Suggested credit line: Student Name/Newhouse School
Yes, you can make prints with these images, but if you publish them on a website or share on social media you MUST credit the photographer who took the image.
Each image includes the caption, credit and the images metadata for reference.
This class is an opportunity for students to be published and also get assignments from professional publications. We want the students to be published in some form — whether it’s digitally, in print or on-air. We know that doing an assignment for a class once a week is different than doing it nearly around the clock for four consecutive days. There should be lots of opportunities for students to push outside their comfort zone to photograph winter sports at the games.
Seth Gitner, an associate professor in the MND and visual communications departments. and MND professor of practice Jon Glass are accompany e students on the trip. Two professionals will be helping out with the Sports Photography workshop, Lenny Christopher and Todd Michalek. The trip is funded by the Newhouse Sports Media Center. In addition, SONY is supporting the venture as a sports photography workshop and providing camera gear, while ThinkTank Photo supplied camera bags and Camera Bits the photo editing software.
